What is Optimism?
(Wait! please don’t throw the biggest misconception of putting Optimism and Hope in the same basket on me!)
“What?? Optimism is not hope?? Okay well, but at least hope is the source for it, right?”
Ahhmm Well no!
“Optimism is to ignore the reality around you.”
Optimism != delusion, mi amigo…(hoping you know python)
Hope is “I can make things better” while Optimism is “Everything will be Okay” (and that’s not delulu!) There is a huge difference that we are going to discuss now. And to your disbelief let me add that Hope cannot bring Optimism! Instead, Optimism can surely bring Hope.
Optimism, unlike Hope, is NOT a feeling but a BELIEF about the future. It is a state of mind. If it’s there, it’s there. It is not conditional and nothing can change it. An Optimist is an Optimist. On the other hand, Hope is something conditional, that can go away in certain situations and can come back in others. If you want an example, If Optimism is Climate then Hope is Weather that can change every day. Optimists do lose hope sometimes. Probably 2 back to back hopeless days just went by, but that doesn't make them Pessimistic, just like 2 days of warmth can’t change the climate of a cold country. Optimism and Pessimism are not temporary, as I mentioned they are the state of mind, not a feeling.
Being an Optimist you don’t ‘hope’ everything is going to be okay, you ‘know’ it.
“ And Why being one?”
Optimistic people get more joy, are physically healthier, are resilient to stressful twists, and have better relationships. Optimists believe their goals are achievable and are more committed to them and can stress their bodies in that pursuit.
"Why would I believe you?"
Well, if you can argue, use the comment facility and CHANGE MY MIND.
“Okay leave it, How can you make your mind up to be an Optimist?”
That’s the point, you can’t make it up!
If you ask an Optimist, what made him like this, the person will not have an answer. If Optimism had come from something, it would have been easy to shatter. Once the source is gone, Optimism is gone!
“So?”
Optimism comes from your perception: How you perceive your experiences, your failures and your successes, the little to biggest things in your life, and how you process your emotions. Remember, we are the products of our thinking.
